This years race had a great entry with 36 paddlers turning up to paddle the circumnavigation of the Great Island in Cork Harbour. After all the ice and freezing conditions of the last few weeks the weather was reasonably mild on the day, with a nice breeze coming in from the east a decision was made to paddle the course in a clockwise direction.
Results on the day saw Jim Morrisey winning the Elite race with a time of 2hrs 18m, Jim won the initial GIKR back in 2006 and put in a strong paddle to stay clear of the chasing field. Padriac Leahy won the Touring class with a fantastic time of 2hrs 40m. With a change of boat we hope to see Padriac competing in the Elite section next year where he will give the three muskateers Jim, Don and Cookie a run for their money.
Many thanks to everyone for turning up, to Dave, Kiaran and Richie for providing safety cover for the day, Cobh Sailing Club for kind use of the RIB once again. Evan and Martin for helping  things go smoothly as always. To Jim who not only won but provided prizes along with Derek of Fantastic Sports in Cobh and Noel of the A-Z Safety Centre. Also many thanks to George and the staff at Marlogue Marina for their help in hosting the event.
